Melanoma Symptoms

If you think you might be at risk for melanoma, you need to understand this form of cancer. Melanoma is a form of skin cancer that usually develops in people that have been exposed to excessive ultra violet rays, as to do with the sun. Although this cancer is the most harmful, it is not the most seen form of skin cancer. Typically, you will develop this skin cancer if you already are predisposition for it. In other words, melanoma has been directly linked to heredity.

Melanoma symptoms are very specific and distinctive. There are very few other alternatives to diagnosing melanoma symptoms. The only real way to diagnose melanoma symptoms is to visit your doctor and have them take a sample of the area in question. After he or she has collected a sample, they will then verify with a lab.

Some common melanoma symptoms include the following outlined below:

1. They reside in areas that can be exposed to the sun, or have been exposed to the sun. These areas typically include: back, legs, arms and face. Although these are the more normal areas, you can still get melanoma on the palm of your hands, sole of your feet and even in your finger nail beds.

2. You notice a change in a mole or, a new mole that has appeared. This is usually the first sign you will see.

3. The mole does not seem to match up on either side. It looks completely different and not very round in shape.

4. The border on the mole is slightly there or non-existent. This means there is no specific distinction between the mole and the rest of your skin.

5. The color changes. These colors that change are usually from pink, red, brown and black.

6. The mole is getting bigger. Malignant moles will usually begin to grow and get bigger than the 6 millimeter width size.

There are other melanoma symptoms that are usually not as noticeable as the skin melanoma. This would include the nail bed, eyes, and mouth. Regular checkups with your doctor will help prevent these melanoma symptoms from going undetected.
