Melanoma Skin Cancer
Melanoma skin cancer is the most deadly of all skin cancers. It is brought on by a few different causes and the rate of survival decreases significantly after the first year. Below are the reasons why melanoma skin cancer is so deadly:
1. Most of the time people do not know they have it
2. People often mistake them for a regular mole
3. After the first year, rate for recovery decreases significantly
4. The cancer attacks other organs in the body
Although these are not the only reasons why melanoma is the most deadly of skin cancers, they are the most common reasons.
What Causes Melanoma Skin Cancer?
There are a few ways for which melanoma skin cancer is caused by, but not limited to:
1. Sun exposure
2. Tanning beds
3. Heredity
4. Pale or very fair skin
Melanoma is a mutation of genes in the DNA strands. Normally, skin rebuilds itself to protect the body; however, when ultra violet rays are exposed to the skin, they will not rebuild the same, yet mutate into a tumor on your skin. It is often seen that melanoma finds itself started on a mole that is already existent. This is why tanning beds are a high risk factor for getting different form of cancer of the skin.
A person has a much greater chance of being at risk for skin cancer when they have a family history of melanoma. The same is true for those that have extremely fair skin or have red hair.
Catch it Early
It is very important to catch melanoma in its early stages. In the first stages of melanoma, it can generally be removed easily by a simple operation. In later years of progression, it becomes harder because it has already deep rooted itself and started to spread. Even when the cancer spot is removed, it has already spread to areas such as the liver and lungs. This is why doctors say after the first years, the survival rate decreases significantly. It is best to get checked if you have any question pertaining to a spot on your skin you are unsure about.
