Melanoma in Situ

As the eighth most common cancer in the United States, Melanoma is becoming an increased concern. Those who have been in contact with melanoma, had spots removed or know someone that suffers from malignant melanoma know it is no easy situation to cope with. In many cases, if not caught in the first year, it can be very deadly and come on quickly.

 

Melanoma in situ are basically melanocytes that can become cancerous and spread its way through normal healthy tissue by infecting it. Melanoma in situ with signs of regression is when the cancer has been removed, yet it shows sign of appearing again after being removed.

 

Melanoma in situ with signs of regression is a melanoma patient’s worse nightmare. Not only has the patient been through the treatment process, the cancer is still showing signs of survival. The way melanoma in situ with signs of regression is diagnosed is by a person’s regular trips to the doctor. This is a main reason why doctors want to see melanoma patients many times a year, depending on the severity of their cancer.

 

If the malignant melanoma reached other organs, this is where you will typically see melanoma in situ with signs of regression. Organs, besides your outer skin, are much more susceptible to regression on cancer because they are not as tough and do not bounce back as quickly.

 

For those with one site that is affected, long term survival has seen an increase, however, not significant enough. Those with multiple sites of cancer, especially in major organs do not see a long term survival rate due to the fact that the sites are inoperable on the cancer front.

 

The newest statistics between melanoma prognosis is only a range of months when speaking about a good prognosis versus a poor one. Basically, melanoma affects everyone pretty much the same no matter how young, old or healthy you may be. It is a cancer that spreads quickly and takes over major organs in multiple spots. Many times people think they have beat melanoma only to show up again weeks or a month later.
