Early Melanoma Looks Like Moles

It is often hard to detect melanoma early on. This is particularly true when you are speaking of the general population that might not know what melanoma is, the causes of melanoma or the risk of having melanoma.

In the first stages, early melanoma look like a mole. They are very similar to the color at times, however, they are very different in shape. Most people will start to notice a difference after the area that is cancerous starts to grow.

A normal mole will not grow, change shape or change color. It specifically will stay there or sometimes even goes away. Unlike a normal mole, melanoma will take the form of an asymmetrical spot on a person’s skin. This spot is sometimes brown, black or pink. They will sometimes bleed, puss or look scaly.

Early melanoma look like undefined, flat, and larger moles that will typically be bigger than 6 millimeters in width. If a person is unsure of a spot on their skin, it is advised they get it checked out by a doctor. They will have to take a sample from around the area and then send it away to a lab so they can examine it under a microscope. This is the only way melanoma can be diagnosed.

Melanoma Progression and Worsening

As the melanoma progresses, the person will see a significant change in their skin. The melanoma will deep root itself and spread fairly quickly. A huge concern, possibly the main concern, about melanoma is the fact that it, once rooted, will attack any bodily organs. Usually, it will look to attack the liver and lungs. These are two vital organs for every day survival.

Melanoma Not Limited to the Skin

Melanoma is not limited to the skin. There is another form of melanoma called ocular melanoma. This is when melanoma is in the eyes. The melanoma cancer acts in the same way as when it is on skin. It will deep root itself and start affecting other organs. The first organ the ocular melanoma takes out is the liver.
