Causes of Melanoma

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that is found to be the most dangerous of all types. The reason it is so deadly is because of many aspects. The first big concern about this skin cancer is people do not usually recognize they have melanoma. Another big reason is people do not know the cause of melanoma. These two reasons alone will make up for half the people who suffer currently from melanoma.

What makes this skin cancer so life threatening is the expansion it takes. Most people will not realize they have this cancer because they think they simply have a mole. The problem is, when the mole starts to grow, they may not think anything of it. In order for melanoma to not affect any other organs, such as the liver, a person needs to catch the cancer in the first year. After that first year, it will grow deeper and spread into organs that then threaten a person’s life.

The Main Cause of Melanoma

The main cause of melanoma is sun exposure. When skin is exposed to sunlight, it damages the DNA gene. When this happens, mutations can occur. If a cell mutation occurs, the skin that is being replaced is not healthy skin; rather, it is skin filled with tumors. This is a condition where melanoma will be present.

Another factor that greatly increases a person’s chances of being at risk for melanoma is if they have a family history of this gene. Other at risk people would include red headed people, a light or pale skinned person, child or someone that is an elder. All these specific situations and conditions will effectively increase the risk for melanoma.

Tanning Beds: Cause of Melanoma

Tanning beds have been exclusively linked to causing melanoma. This is greatly seen in the increase of melanoma cases since tanning beds have increased in popularity. There is also heavy evidence, being they emit ultra violet light, that they mutate genes as the sunlight does. Increased time in the sunlight or tanning bed will increase your chances of getting melanoma.
