Melanoma
Although Melanoma is not a common type of skin cancer, it is the most harmful. It is important to get educated on not only Melanoma, but all skin cancers that may be harmful to you.
Causes of Melanoma
There is one distinct cause of Melanoma. This main cause is too much sun exposure. The suns rays cause skin cells that were once normal to become abnormal. In turn, they start attacking the normal skin cells around them. These cells by the same token stack the normal cells around them. This constant cycle happens until it is stopped and can quickly spread out of control.
Typically, Melanoma runs in the family. The signs that Melanoma might run in your family are very clear. If you have raised moles or abnormal moles in more than one place, that might be a sign that Melanoma runs in the family. While these are not cancerous, they are generally a good sign and indicator.
Melanoma comes in the form of skin discoloration and a mole like appearance. These moles are different than the ones you will typically see one your skin. They are usually black or brown, show discoloring, not even, bumpy and asymmetrical. These moles also can become crusty and bleed. They might also look as though they are infected and dispense a slight puss type liquid.
Diagnosis of Melanoma
In order to diagnose if you have Melanoma, you need to visit your doctor so he or she may take a biopsy. After they take a sample of tissue around the mole, they will then examine it. If they determine you have Melanoma, you will have to have it removed. This is really the only effective way to cure this cancer.
Depending on the severity of the Melanoma, you may have to undergo some other forms of treatment. For example, if the moles were deep and dispersed in many areas, you may have to have restoration surgery to fix scars and damaged tissue. Also, if your moles have become logged deep into your skin, you will have to take some medicine to fight off the cancer cells.
Any time you are diagnosed with Melanoma, you will have to visit your doctor every three to six months for a check-up. It is recommended you follow all procedures your doctor instructs you to do so it does not return.
